I have about 2 months experience with Joomla! (1.6) and have most of the site up, but am having trouble getting the top menu the way I'd like it to be. I started with the 1.6 sample data, stripped their articles but kept their templates and styles for now, using Beez2 - default / beez_20 for now.

TOP menu - position-1
-HOME - Single Article
-CLUB - sSingle Article - intent is to be drop-down with two items:
--ByLaws & Constitution- Single Article
--Organization - Single Article
-MEMBERS - Single Article, intent is drop down with about 8 items, all single articles
-LOGOUT

There is also a main menu on the left (position-7) that is working properly.

Right now what I get when I open the site is
[HOME][CLUB][MEMBERS][LOGOUT] across the top as expected, but then I also have
[BYLAWS & CONSTITUTION][ORGANIZATION]
as a second tier, right justified and is always visible. Clicking one of these items does in fact take me to the article.

I have a module: CLUB which is of type ARI EXT MENU
Details Page:
Title: CLUB
Show Title: Hide
Position: position-1
Published
Access: Public (for now)
Ordering: 1. TOP ( I also tried "2. CLUB" - No change)
Basic Options section
Menu name: Top
Menu direction: Vertical
Start level: 1
End level: -1
Show only active sub-menus: Yes

Menu Assignment Section:
Module Assignment: All Pages
Menu Selection: ( Min Menu - Top - User Menu )
( all items checked and grayed out)

--------------
I also have a module TOP in position-1 which references HOME/CLUB/MEMBERS/...
Is that the problem? Should there only be one item at position-1, of type ARI EXT MENU which includes items that are not drop-downs?
