You can modify HTML layout of site template in index.php file and add a new module position or create custom CSS rules for menu container and use position:absolute CSS property.

Thanks for the quick advice. Have solved that issue, now I can't seem to get the menu items images for background, hover and focus to appear.

I have added this to the module CSS

background-color: transparent !important;
width: 127px;
border-style: none !important;
background: transparent url("images/whitearrow.png");
background-repeat: no-repeat;
}

Trying to get the background to appear. No luck.
