I am really clueless about all this and would really appreciate some help.

I have wasted a whole day and night trying to get my vertical menu (artisteer/joomla) to expand
and can't so I thought I would try this extension to see if I could customise it to look like image 1.

I have installed module and linked to an existing menu.
It just shows a huge long list of all the menu items (image2 below) and I don't know how to hide the sub-items.

Also, can I customise image 2 so it looks like image 1? I tried art-vmenu which changed it a little...

Please help I am about to tear my hair out!!!

Please note: the green menu is how I want it to look- the brown menu is what I'm getting!

About the problem with sub-menu, provide link to page where we can see it. It can be a conflict with site template styles.

If you want to change menu design, this post can be useful. It contains information about menu HTML layout and CSS classes.

My site is local at the moment and I don't know how to put it up (someone else will do that for me)

That whole CSS page doesn't mean anything to me!!

My vertical menu worked beautifully while in artisteer and I'm sure i have all the right boxes checked there- is that what you mean about template issues?

Are there any step by step instructions anywhere??

We can investigate the issue if you upload your site to an online server and provide link to page where we can see the problem or send page files of the page where the problem occurs by email. This process is described here.
