Ouch. That's bad.

Apologies for leading you round in circles on this, I do appreciate your time.

Try this - I've tested it on another computer and it seems to render the page as it does when served from the development server

If you open HTML source of the page, you can find it contains a lot of empty <A> tag in menu and other places. It can be problem with a 3rd party extension or if menu template files were modified.

Excellent work spotting that. Closing the offending <a> tag has solved the problem.
