Please see the screengrab above. This is what happens when I set the mobile versions to inline-block.

As long as I have:
#topnav .ux-menu-container ul.ux-menu {
display:block;
}
the background & content lay out properly.

As soon as I change to:
#topnav .ux-menu-container ul.ux-menu {
display:inline-block;
}
the background goes off to the right and the content is off to the left as shown in the screengrab.
