It requires to modify CSS styles and probably HTML templates (need some knowledge of CSS and HTML).

HTML + CSS is not a problem, but where do you recommend to change it so that it is not overwritten in later updates and remains preserved?

Usually site template contains a CSS file for overriding styles so you can add custom styles to such file.
