Has anyone ever tried to figure out what the maximum number of people who take a test at the same time (concurrently) can be?

Our joomla site (and ari-quiz) is on a dedicated server with these specs: Quad core Xeon processors, 4 gigs of ddr3 memory.


One of our customers in Finland this morning tried to get about 10 people to take the same quiz and said they had problems. They have about 4mbs download speed when they did a speed test from Finland to the east coast of the us (speedtest.atlanticbb.net).

Today we tried up to 8 test takers simultaneously taking the same quiz and had no problems. (We are in FLoridad and our server is up around Washington, DC).

The Finland customers say that the exam runs slow for some students. Sometimes the connection seems to break (see attached image).

I think the problem is on their end, but I want to do my part to look into this. I am sure with a dedicated server we can handle many more users than this.

Looking at our stats, we had less than 91 total visitors and around 77 new visitors, 576 page views. About 86 megs of content was downloaded. So we don't have heavy traffic today.

Any ideas?

The component should work fine with these number of competing users because it stores common quiz data in session and run one SQL query per question which doesn't require a lot of resources.

Thanks for the answer. Have any users ever gotten back to you with data about using ari-quiz for a large number of users? That would be interesting to hear about. I am not asking for an answer... I am only saying that it would be interesting to hear who was able to use your quiz component with the most users and at what point things started to break down.

We don't track where our customers use the component, but one of our customer wrote that uses the component for states exams and a lot of people can take exams at the same time.
