I've inserted the theme switcher in the article content and it displays a dropdown list but changing the selector makes no difference.

Please advise where I am going wrong. Also is there another way to change the theme, from the default set in the plugin, within the arijdatatable syntax itself?

"Theme switcher" plugin is changed themes v. 1.5, but "ARI JDataTable" plugin is used themes v. 1.7. Currently only theme from "ARI jQuery UI Loader" plugin settings can be used. We will improve this functionality in a future release.
