I was investing several days and even purchasing an actual ARI-Smart-Content Version for upgade: There is no way to select a data source when opening the module. If I click the "select" button ("options") the table with existing csv-data-sources will open in a separate window. However when choosing one of the csv-data files nothing happens. The data source window in the module remains empty. What is wrong???

When "Data source -> Select" button is pressed, a popup with available data sources should be shown where possible to select a source.

In your case it can be a conflict with a 3rd party extension. Could you provide a temporary access to your J! backend by email so we can investigate the problem?
